Member Survey Report – 2018

CPHR BC & Yukon carried out a survey of its members by way of an Online questionnaire in the Fall of 2018. In this report you will learn about key outcomes from the survey, high level analysis of significant themes and how CPHR BC & Yukon is responding.

Survey responses were collected Online, through the Qualtrics Survey platform. We received 702 responses over the two week period when the survey was live. This number represents 12% of the CPHR BC & Yukon membership at the time of the survey.

Key Findings

When those with the CPHR designation were asked how it has impacted their career, the top responses were:

  1. Career Credibility
  2. Knowledge & Skill Building
  3. Securing A Position

When asked to identify HR topics that they hoped to learn more about over the coming year, the top member responses were:

  1. HR Strategy & Leadership
  2. Employment Law & New Legislation
  3. Employee Engagement & Retention
  4. Change Management
  5. Succession Planning

* Most popular “other” responses were: people analytics, workplace communications, wellness, workforce planning, coaching, total compensation.

When asked which CPHR BC & Yukon offerings they had accessed or participated in over the past year, respondents listed the following as the top five:

  1. Professional Development – In Person
  2. Job Board To View Career Opportunities
  3. Networking/Social Event
  4. Roundtables
  5. HR Toolkit

When asked which CPHR BC & Yukon offerings they felt offered the most value to themselves and other HR professionals, respondents listed the following:

  1. Professional Development
  2. CPHR Designation
  3. HR Job Board
  4. Networking and Social Events
  5. Roundtables

We asked respondents, “what initiatives or activities would increase the value of a CPHR BC & Yukon membership, in your opinion”. There were a variety of responses, but four significant themes emerged from the comments:

  1. More free & low cost PD offerings
  2. Initiatives that highlight the HR profession and the CPHR designation within the greater business community
  3. Live online networking & sharing opportunities
  4. Increased support for specific groups ie: HR consultants, emerging professionals, senior professionals, HR professionals working outside of the major centres

How CPHR BC & Yukon is Responding

CPHR BC & Yukon is working hard to continue to provide the support, resources and learning opportunities that members want and need to advance their career. We value all the feedback and recommendations we receive, and endeavor to adjust and grow based on what we hear from our members and key stakeholders.

In response to this survey, and other past surveys, we are working on the following:

  • Adding more in-person PD symposiums, in more communities. In 2019 there will be 10 symposiums in 7 different communities.
  • Lowering the cost of webinars in 2019 by as much as 50%
  • Working with our industry partners to offer more free webinars to members throughout the year
  • Developing and enhancing PeopleTalk Online to become a valuable source of searchable HR-focused content
  • Establishing new partnerships with likeminded associations and organizations at the provincial, national and international level
  • Introduction of a Consultant’s Directory to promote the work of our consultant members and to provide easy-to-access HR expertise to the business community
  • A focus on our own member experts as preferred presenters and content providers
  • New “Junior” posting rate on the CPHR BC & YK job board, to encourage companies to post more jobs that appeal to emerging HR professionals
  • Working with CPHR Canada on global alliances including Memorandums of Understanding and/or Mutual Recognition Agreements with organizations such as SHRM
  • Pursuing the possibility of member-run “virtual” Roundtable events. Stay tuned!
