Fraserside Community Services Society is thrilled to announce that it received the “Not-For-Profit Business of the Year – Over $1 Million” 2015 Platinum Award. The award was shared with Fraser Works Co-op.

The 2015 Platinum Awards were presented by the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the celebration of Community Excellence Gala Event.

Fraserside was well represented at the gala by ten guests including staff, people who receive service, and a family member. "Our vision is to create communities of belonging where the diversity of all people is welcome," said Fraserside's Chief Executive Officer, Lynda Edmonds. "What better way to live into that vision than to introduce the business community to the folks they hire through our employment programs?”

Fraserside's guest tickets were sponsored by a few caring families, an anonymous Fraserside employee, and the following generous businesses: DW Optimum, Accurate Alarms, and realtor Dave Vallee.

“It was a joyous night to celebrate and to have the Fraserside community acknowledged by the New Westminster business community," said Lynda Edmonds. "We all belong!”

Lynda Edmonds submitted an award nomination to the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce in October 2015 to demonstrate Fraserside's trail blazing "community inclusion" programs and contributions to New Westminster. In 2014, Fraserside supported 15 people with development disabilities through the Supported Employment Program and 11 people to achieve paid employment with the Mobile Work Crew. “I's on the Street,” a program of New Leaf Employment that supports adults with serious and persistent mental illness, employed over 20 homeless or at-risk-of-homeless individuals last year.

Each program uses a "customized employment" method to help job seekers discover, develop and retain work. The programs also provide onsite training and support to both the new employee and the employer. "The benefits to employers are clearly demonstrated," says Lynda. "Our programs help create inclusivity, increase morale and productivity, foster a positive corporate profile, and increase customer loyalty. Above all, customers like it!"
